May 19th’s MBA Executive Speaker Series brought together manufacturing leaders for a timely discussion on workforce challenges, AI, leadership, and the future of the industry.
The panel featured Christie Drabic of Wabtec Corporation, Philip Katen of Micro Mold & Plastikos, and Jim Rutkowski Jr. of Industrial Sales & Manufacturing Inc..
A major theme throughout the discussion was that AI is a tool designed to support people, not replace them. Panelists emphasized the importance of investing in the right systems, processes, and employee training to successfully adapt to new technology.
The conversation also explored manufacturing’s ongoing perception challenge. While outdated views of manufacturing still exist, today’s industry offers advanced technology, strong career opportunities, and significant earning potential for the next generation workforce.
Speakers stressed the importance of adapting to workforce expectations, building strong workplace culture, and creating opportunities for future talent through education, tours, and community partnerships.
Leadership and relationships were also central themes. Panelists encouraged attendees to remain lifelong learners, focus on positive impact, invest in their teams, and lean on professional relationships to help navigate change and growth.
The message throughout the morning was clear: manufacturers that continue to adapt, invest in people, and embrace innovation will be best positioned for the future.
The MBA’s next Executive Speaker Series will take place at the MBA Conference Center on August 4th and will feature Erie Events’ Executive Director, Gus Pine. Readers can register here.
